Hey...welcome back Dave! This is well...weird. I really can't take my eyes off of it b/c it looks so plausible. I think maybe a bigger emphasis of the light shining on the....thing...to reflect the intensity of the light on the branch would blend them together even more. ....weird...but so damn cool.

Cool. Not my fav, because I think the background shows colors that are so warm they make the monkey's body look flat. The anatomy shows flaws because optically it looks like the poor thing couldn't carry it's own head. Other than that, I really like where your subtile way of painting is going, it shows skill and patience. If it was just a little bit more like the jellied egg one it would be great. Keep up the ambition, you're doing really good, and I think that if this direction will evolve, you'll become a master in your discipline.
